Title: Ambulatory Aid with Step Counter
Summary: The present technology introduces a step-counting device that may be employed with a number of ambulatory aids that is beneficial in measuring and monitoring activity in patients recovering ambulatory capacity.
Applications:
  • Durable and inexpensive device for disabled and/or injured patients to monitor their physical activity and progress
  • Tool for physicians and caregivers to monitor patient's ambulatory progress

  • Compact device for patients to take home already attached to an ambulatory aid, enabling their independence.
  • Device may be fit onto existing crutches, canes, walkers, or prosthetics.
  • Device is waterproof and durable.
  • System is battery powered and self-contained.

  • Accurately records steps taken without altering function, integrity, weight or appearance.
State of Development: Currently available in final commercial form.
R and D Required: Possible study to document particular clinical utility.
Licensing Potential: UMB seeks commercialization partner.
