invenioIP™ SEARCH TIPS

General: The invenioIP™ search engine searches ALL words and numbers contained in each technology detail page.

Broad search:
Search on any word or number, including but not limited to:
  • Key technical terms, e.g.,: therapeutics, cancer, device
  • Inventor name by last name or by both first name and last name: e.g. Smith or John Smith
  • School or Institution name, e.g. John Hopkins University or JHU
  • Contact person
  • Patent number or patent application number (where provided)
  • Technology identification number or code (docket)
Recommended broad search strategies:

  • Search by partial or truncated words. For example, keyword "therap" will locate technology summaries in which "therapeutics", "therapies" and/or "therapy" are used.
  • Avoid search words that may automatically limit your search. For example, a search on keyword "nanotechnology" provides few or no search results. However, a search on the keyword "nano" yields more than 60 search results. This is because a search on the keyword "nano" picks up all variations on words relating to "nanotechnology" such as "nanospheres", "nanoparticles" and "nanotech".
  • If you receive a "NO RECORDS WERE FOUND" message, you may consider searching a synonym or other related term. For example, a search of the keyword "oncology" yields few search results. A search of the keyword "cancer" yields more than 300 search results.
Targeted Search:
Narrow your broad search results by using the "search within these results" box provided at the top right of the search results page:
Example: A search on keyword "cancer" provides over 300 search results. You may, however, wish to review only those cancer technologies for which a peptide has been synthesized. A "Search within these results" for the term "peptide" results in a more manageable list of technologies for review. The results from the narrower "peptide" search may be further narrowed by performing yet another "Search within these results" using a term such as "vascular".

As you begin to narrow your search, please make a note of your search criteria. This will be helpful in tailoring your ipPULSE™ account for receiving updates to invenioIP that complement the results of your original search.
